STARFLEET Marine Strike Group 280
The STARFLEET Marine Corps is a group affiliated with STARFLEET, International. The SFMC is considered an office under the Director of Auxiliary Services, STARFLEET. Fictionally, the SFMC is part of the ground forces rarely seen in the episodes but are assumed to be a part of the Naval Fleet of the United Federation of Planets.
Members of the SFMC are members of STARFLEET. The Corps does not have different requirements for membership except that a STARFLEET Marine must be a member in good standing in STARFLEET. Although it does have a different name for each rank within the promotional system, and a different organizational structure than the Naval portion of STARFLEET, STARFLEET Marines are regular, dues paying members. Some STARFLEET members are Marine Reserve. These are members who are active in the naval portion of the Fleet AND with the Ground Forces area as well. Occasionally you may find a STARFLEET Marine who is or was active military, but this is not a requirement to be in the Corps.
Aboard the USS Alan Turing, SFMC members are a part of the Marine Strike Group (MSG) #280, known as the “Buffalo Storm Wardens”, and are a part of the 12th Brigade “Dirty Dozen” under 4th Battalion. Their motto is “In War, Victory. In Peace, Vigilance. In Death, Sacrifice”. They are a MECHA unit. Some responsibilities for the chapter includes:
- Perform ceremonial and Color Guard duties
- Provide Honor Guard for flag officers and other dignitaries of high esteem
- Assist Security in support of their duties
Note: Marines may be requested by Security to add to their manpower for security of events and meetings. Additionally, it is expected and required that all Marines defer to police officers, detectives and other professional security personnel at all times.
If you are interested in joining, either as an active member or as a reserve member, please contact the ship's Commanding Officer.
