A sub-department of the Medical Department, Spiritual Services is the department that offers research and education of the various religions within and outside the Federation, answering questions for members of the crew as well as the Command Staff.  Some other examples of responsibilities include:

• Provide emotional and spiritual/religious support to crew members when requested in times of need
• Perform spiritual ceremonies only when properly trained and can do so with proper respect
• Assist crew members by providing a moral compass when requested by crew members
• Refer crew members to appropriate churches or other spiritual organizations when requested
• Write articles regarding modern religions, ancient mythologies, or the deaths of Star Trek figures

Examples of positions available in this department are Chaplain, Spiritual Advisor, and Grief Counselor.

The Department Chief of Spiritual  Services is currently held by Commander James Sheldon, but he is currently looking for someone to take over. To hold this position, they are required to be compliant with SFDPP 101, 102 and the yearly re-certification of SFDPP, as well as the completion of the OCC and OTS within STARFLEET Academy.
