A sub-department of the Medical Department, the core of psychological services is to offer a friendly ear to members of the crew should they need it.  Some responsibilities for this department are:

• Provide emotional support and give advice in regard to events that occur in a crew member's life
• Advise Command Staff of any serious issues that could jeopardize the ship and her crew
• Refer to a professional counselor for any issues that need attention beyond that of being a friend
• Defer at all times to professional psychological/psychiatric service providers

Examples of positions available in this department are Counselor and Behavioral Specialist.

The Department Chief of Psychological  Services is currently held by Counselor Amanda Brown, but she is currently looking for someone to take over. To hold this position, they are required to be compliant with SFDPP 101, 102 and the yearly re-certification of SFDPP, as well as the completion of the OCC and OTS within STARFLEET Academy.
